Björg Vik

Auteur

Haar uitgeverij geft de volgende informatie: Bjørg Vik (born 1935) has made her mark on Norwegian literature over a period of more than 30 years. She has published 25 books, including novels, short-stories, plays, and radio-plays. Her work has been translated into a number of languages. During the 60's and 70's, Bjørg Vik's writings presented an unusual and provocative image of the erotically active woman, including 'Fortellinger om frihet' (Tales of Freedom), 1975, and 'To akter for fem kvinner' (Two Acts for Five Women), 1974.

Then, at the end of the 80's she published the Elsi Lund trilogy, which made her work popular among readers of a new generation. In many ways, Bjørg Vik's literary career is a mirror-image of the developing debate on women's issues in Norwegian society - from the oppressed SOS from the deep couch, via the more articulated battle-cry of the women's movement, to the deepening understanding of both sexes which is a trademark of the acute psychological descriptions contained in her prose. The work of Bjørg Vik is a true record of love and its various conditions.

In 1998 Bjørg Vik wrote the novel 'Roser i et sprukket krus' (Roses in a Shattered Vase). The main character Maja Sellmann is left alone in the house when her beloved husband dies just after Maja's sixtieth birthday. She is stuck in the small town with her children and grandchildren - and the rest of her life in front of her. Behind Maja's sorrow she can feel that there is a compete living woman left inside her. Then suddenly fate offers her an opportunity. This is an important novel about how women may take charge of their own life. The novel was described by critics as 'one of the finest, most learned novels of the year'. (VG). Aftenposten wrote, 'Bjørg Vik's latest offering fulfils many of the requirements of a classic...' .
