Barbara Voors stelt zich voor:

I was born in Stockholm in 1967 and am a woman of half Swedish, half Dutch heritage. I grew up in Teheran, Iran, from which my family escaped during the revolution in 1979. In connection with what I viewed as 'my exile' in Sweden, I started writing: an inconsolable diary, poems with halting rhymes and 20 pages of plagiarism in the style of Great Russian Authors. After assiduous imitation, suddenly a foreign language emerged; it turned out to be my own.

At 22 years of age, I made my debut with the novel älskade du (You, My Love), a story about the first impossible love. After that came Akvarium (Aquarium), where I made use of memories from my beloved Iran. In the year 1993, I wrote Tillit till dig (Trust in You), in which a loving couple has doubts concerning exactly that theme. Syster min (Sister of Mine) is a novel in which I was able to try to combine two genres: the classical novel and a thriller. Sömnlös (Insomnia), and is about sorrow and sleeplessness in combination with anonymous e-mail letters and unfinished treatises. It is the most remarkable and the funniest thing I ever have set about doing. Smultronbett (Strawberry Bite) is my most recent novel about a womans fall from grace.

I also have written a travel book, När elefanter dansar (When Elephants Dance), in which I describe traveling through Tanzania, writing about everything from aid and democratization to malaria and a tremendous sense of joy. In this book, I was able to combine literature with my great and never-ceasing interest: developing countries (a dry word with an immense context: faith in the equal value of human-beings and fundamental dignity). Besides writing books I work as a writer for development assistance organizations, such as the Swedish UN association, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs etc. (bron: Nordinagency)
